I got this image of a contents page off Google and I've used aspects of this contents page and my own ideas and incorporated them into my own contents page. The thing that made me pick this particular contents page, is the use of pictures- a main image on the left which is bigger than the 4 other images around it, underneath each image is text explaining what subject the image is to do with, who is featured in the images and what page it appears on. Secondly the text on the right hand side going in a column downwards is a good way to present what the magazine features and also uses the colour scheme of yellow well as the black helps the text stand out. Also the editors letter on the top left of the page is well seen and positioned right so that you read it when you first see the page.

Inspiration for Front Cover

I found this picture of Miley Cyrus on Google and it gave me inspiration for my front cover. Billboard is a current magazine with the same genre as my magazine so I loved the style of the cover shoot and with some changes going to incorporate it into my magazine. As my magazine is more music focused than celebrity focused, I'm going to replace the giant M with a black vinyl record. My own magazine will have the same layout as this front cover 

Genre Defintions

 Genre-is the term for any types of literature or other forms of art or entertainment, for example music, whether written or spoken audial or visual. Genres are formed by conventions that change over time.

Sub-Genre-A subcategory within a particular genre and can apply to literature, music, film, theatre, video games, or other forms of art. Sub-genre breaks down these categories into more defined subjects.

Hybrid Genre- hybrid genre is a combination of two or more themed categories. Such merging two things together and may occur in art, music and literature.

Magazine Proposal

I plan to create a magazine based on the upcoming/latest trends and they will be incorporated into music. For instance I will be presenting my reader with the seasons trends and the top songs of the week; chart music and pop will be the main music the is in my magazine. Top of the pops and billboard are my main inspiration for my magazine, as they are both music focused but feature style and fashion as well. The primary audience will be teenage girls ranging from   17-24, I chose this age range because some things  featured in my magazine might not be suitable for an early teen, also my magazine gives the reader an injection of fun and experience to the over 17 year old teenage girl. As the genre will be pop/charts, ‘the music everybody’s listening to before they listen’ my magazine will give the reader an advantage to get ahead. The typical reader would be a teenage girl who is in college in her prime, who likes to go out party and enjoy life, loves up to date music and trends. Offers and competitions will appeal to my audience because it will be things they want or are interested in- tickets to festivals, music merchandise or latest technology. Students are a main aspect of my magazine as they are the fun and risk takers generation of today.

The layout of my magazine will be fun creative and trendy, I will do this by having bold titles which draw the reader to my magazine and give them a juicy story which will leave them wanting more. In contrast of music, a 21^st century teenage girl lives in a world surrounded by technology so In my magazine I will give information and offers to do with the latest technology everyone wants. As well as presentation my magazine will have deep feeling in it to express music tied into the life of a teenage girl. Teenage girls are emotional and experiencing new things all the time and that’s why I will name my magazine ‘Experience’ to express a teenage girl of today. As well as the title I will include a weekly feature called ‘My Experience’ where readers can write in and tell us what new experiences they have had this week and the best one will get a free exciting experience paid for by us! The colour scheme will be fun and colourful, eye catching but at the same time suitable for a music magazine.

Customer Profile

This customer profile shows the life and ifferent aspects of my ideal reader for my magazine. For instance, the picture sign on the bottom right is a sign of a women and the colour pink for a girl, this represents the fact my magazine will be a womens only magazine. Other parts of this profile is the instagram and twitter logos (top right) with are typically used by students- this incorprates with the gold sticker in the middle of the page with the pink text 'Student Discount' as both aspects apply to students. My ideal reader will regularly attend festivals and music will be a big part of their life; which again incorperates with the picture at the top of the page which is audio levels which is an essential part of music therefore should be important to a music lover.

Contents Page/Anyalsis

In my contents page i have inlcuded pictures and stories that are appropriate to my target audience. The main three catigories i have put the stories into are 'fashion&gossip' 'weekly' and 'front cover'  and i have wrote the text in bold so that it catches the eye of the reader and gives them guidence if they are looking for something in perticular. Highlight of my contents page i would say would be my title as i think it is suitable for the magazine as the colours are in relation to aquinas as a college, also i have explored different texts and wanted one that stands out but is fun at the same time; i also made the size big so the reader knows what the page includes. The three pictures on the contents page are relevent to the story the are placed next to- this is where placing is important because you need each aspect of your contents page in a space where it is complimented by its surroundings e.g a main picture on the contents page in the corner where its not seen properly.

In the top right corner is my letter from the editor which i think i wrote profesionally and properly with a picture of me the editor underneath, for presentation reasons i  put a speech bubble around the letter. On the other hand the negetive points about my contents page would be the pug beacuse the red i have chosen doesn't go with the black text that is inside as the colour scheme doesnt look appealing. As well as the flash the text used for the features on my contents page isn't bold enough for the readers to read as it doesn't stand out so overall the things I would change would be the text to make them bolder and change the colour of the text on the pug.

In my contact sheet i've chosen images which are suitable and not suitable for my magazine. The first image isnt suitable because it is not a medium close up; although the background is effective as it makes the main subject stand out.
The second picture to the right is suitable because its a mid shot and the background makes the main subject stand out really well and i like the way the focus is to the sky.
The third picture to the right i won't use because the lighting in the picture is too bright on the main subjects face which wouldnt be suitable for my front cover.
The fouth picture second row down isn't suitable because the main subjects focus isn't central and i want the main focus to be central for my front cover.
The fifth picture second to the right on he second row is suitable because its a medium close up and its a clear picture of the main subject, also the picture is central which makes it more effective as a shot.
The sixth picture is a good photo because the lighting is perfect and the shot is cental to the camera; which brings attention to the clear background behind the main subject.
The seventh picture, thid row down is also suitable for my magazine because it is a clear shot, central and again shows the clear red backgound, puts ephasisis on the subject.
The eight pictue second along on the third row isn't suitable in any way because it isn't a medium close up its a group shot because there is more than one person in the picture.
The last picture isn't suitable because it isn't a medium close up, its not concentrating on the main image, puts focus on the background moe than the picture

Audience Research

To create my Aquinas magazine I needed to find out what my audience are interested in and so I got people to complete a survey so I could collect information to incorporate into my magazine. I asked 10 questions about peoples general interests and I found out that the high percentage of people like comedy films, so as a result of this I made sure I added a section which tells the readers the latest comedy films or the 'must see' comedy films of that particular time.
